Camps Bay sits right beneath the Twelve Apostles, the mountain range that forms part of Table Mountain National Park. Several well known trails climb up from Camps Bay itself, most starting from the Pipe Track above Theresa Avenue.
A few things apply to all of these hikes. Table Mountain National Park charges an entry fee. Weather can change quickly, so check conditions before you go. Hiking in a group is strongly recommended, and these routes are best suited to hikers with a reasonable level of fitness.
Kasteelspoort
The most popular route up from Camps Bay, and a good option if you want a well marked, well used path. It is steep in sections, with some scrambling near the top, but the trail is clear throughout. Many hikers combine it with a walk to Tranquility Cracks or across to the Upper Cable Station. More info.
Porcupine Ravine
A route that runs alongside Kasteelspoort, often used as part of a loop with the Pipe Track. It shares much of the same character as Kasteelspoort, steep with some rocky sections.
Woody Ravine
Quieter and more shaded than Kasteelspoort, tucked between it and the closed Slangholie Ravine. It involves some scrambling and requires a fair level of fitness, but it is a favourite among locals who prefer to avoid the busier trails. More info.
Diagonal
A steep route on the western slopes, offering good views back over Camps Bay and Llandudno. It is a solid alternative if you have already done Kasteelspoort or Woody Ravine and want a different way up or down.
Corridor Ravine
Found further along the Pipe Track, past Woody Ravine. The ascent is steep with loose stones, and the descent needs care for the same reason. It is one of the main ways to reach Tranquility Cracks. More Info.
Oudekraal Ravine
A quieter, less travelled route that branches off near Corridor Ravine. It offers a more secluded hiking experience, with fewer people on the trail, and leads toward Grootkop, one of the Twelve Apostles peaks.
Tranquility Cracks
Not a trail on its own, but a destination reached via Corridor Ravine, Kasteelspoort, or Woody Ravine. It is a series of narrow rock passages with yellowwood trees growing inside them, sheltered from wind and sun. Most hikers treat it as a highlight to add onto one of the main routes, and a good spot for a break or a picnic. More info.
