What is the difference between Camps Bay Beach, Glen Beach, and Bakoven Beach?
These three beaches sit close together, but each one has its own character.
Camps Bay Beach
This is the main beach. It is wide, sandy, and has Blue Flag status. Lifeguards are on duty in summer, and it sits directly across from the restaurants and bars on Victoria Road. It suits sunbathing, swimming, and people watching. There is a tidal pool at the southern end, which gives calmer, safer water for children.
Glen Beach
Glen Beach is a small cove just south of the main beach, reached by a short walk around the rocks. It is known as the best surf spot in the area, with a consistent break that draws local surfers. It has a quieter, more local feel than the main beach. There are no permanent lifeguards here, so it suits confident swimmers and surfers more than families with young children.
Bakoven Beach
Bakoven is further south again, in a small residential pocket of the same name. It is a quiet, rocky beach among granite boulders, not really a spot for sunbathing or swimming laps. It is a good place for a peaceful afternoon, some scrambling over rocks, or watching the sunset away from the crowds. It is also home to South Africa’s oldest sea rescue station.
