The passage to our suite was a maze through an ancient milkwood forest. The suite, steeped in luxury.
A beautifully decorated lounge, leading to our private patio. Only the large glass doors in the lounge, bedroom and en suite bathroom separating us from the most spectacular fynbos we had ever seen. Our four poster bed perfectly positioned to admire the view. The small kitchenette was equipped with a bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and delicious biscotti.
Lunch was advertised as a light lunch but there was nothing “light” about it. Three courses with at least 2 – 3 choices per course. Every course beautifully presented and mouth watering.
Grootbos is exceptionally generous with their dinner times which can be enjoyed from 18:30 – 23:00. That might be the amount of hours you need to complete the amazing five course dinner. The food is an exceptionally high standard and the wine list is well chosen, all from local vineyards.
Unfortunately it was raining during our stay, therefore we were unable to do all the excursions on offer. We did do the fynbos walk which was beautiful and informative in equal parts. Our fynbos ranger had an exceptional sense of humor.
Grootbos is the perfect luxury base from which to go shark cage diving, whale watching and wine tasting. If you ever need an indulgent weekend away from Cape Town, Grootbos is it.
