My wine connoisseur friend, Cobie and her husband invited me for lunch at Mont Marie in Stellenbosch. A friend of Cobie, Deanne who is practically my neighbour in Camps Bay joined us.
Mont Marie Restaurant is on the Klein DasBosch wine estate and owned by Whitey Basson.
It was a beautiful, sunny day and the views over the small lake and the vineyards were picturesque. We dined outside on the terrace. Cobie and Bjorn kicked off with a wine tasting while Deanne and I sipped on the ice cold Klein DasBosch Unwooded Chardonnay.
I ordered the chicken salad as a starter and the tuna as a main course. Everyone around the table agreed that the food was very appetising and reasonably priced.
Bjorn let his sweet tooth get the better of him and ordered the chocolate tart for dessert. After the spoon was passed around the lemon and poppy seed soufflé was immediately added to our wish list and devoured.
I suggest you make the most of the last few months of the Cape Town summer and book a table at Mont Marie. Remember in Stellenbosch Sunday lunch bookings are essential.
