Is it free?
Yes. Parking itself is free. It is customary to tip the informal parking attendants who watch over the area, usually a small amount.
When is it hardest to find a spot?
Parking gets tight on busy summer days and weekends. If the main road is full, side streets and the parallel roads behind it are worth checking, since spaces often open up there even when Victoria Road is packed.
Secure, undercover parking option
For convenient and secure parking, head directly to The Promenade, often referred to as the Camps Bay Mall, on Victoria Road. This beachfront shopping centre has a secure, undercover parking garage that accepts both cash and card payments.
Tips for an easier visit
- Arrive earlier in the day during peak season, since spaces fill quickly by midday.
- Check the side streets behind Victoria Road if the beachfront itself looks full. To visit Camps Bay beach you can also park in 1st Crescent and for Bakoven beach you can park in Rottingdean Road.
- Keep a small amount of cash on hand for the parking attendants. Only tip the official car guards wearing Camps Bay bibs. Do not tip anyone in a plain reflective vest or without a bib, as they are not official.
- If parking looks difficult, Uber is a reliable alternative, and drop off is right at the beachfront.
- Street parking itself is free. If anyone tells you it costs a set amount per hour, this is a scam. Do not pay it.
