Within Camps Bay itself, you can get around on foot. The main strip along Victoria Road, the beach, and the restaurants and cafés nearby are all close together and easy to walk between.
Where walking works well
The beachfront promenade, the restaurant strip, and the shops along Victoria Road all sit within a short walk of each other. If your accommodation is close to the beach, you may not need a car at all for day to day movement within Camps Bay.
Where a car, taxi, or rideshare helps
Camps Bay is hilly. If your accommodation sits further up the slope, away from the beachfront, the walk back can be steep. A short taxi or rideshare ride is an easy way to avoid that climb, especially after a meal or a night out.
Getting to other parts of Cape Town, such as the city centre, the V&A Waterfront, or the winelands, also needs a car, taxi, or rideshare. These are a drive away, not a walk, even though some of them are not far in distance.
What most visitors do
Ride-hailing apps are widely used and reliable in and around Camps Bay. Many visitors use these instead of renting a car, especially for trips into the city or to nearby beaches. If you plan to explore further afield, such as Cape Point or the wine estates, a rental car gives you more freedom, but it is not essential just to enjoy Camps Bay itself.
A quick way to decide
- Staying close to the beach, mostly relaxing in Camps Bay? You likely do not need a car.
- Staying further up the hill, or planning day trips around the Cape? A car, or regular rideshare use, will make things easier.
- All our properties are walking distance to the beach.
