Camps Bay is close to the city centre. Most sources put the distance at around 6 to 8 kilometres, with a drive time of 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic and the route you take.
Two main routes
Over Kloof Nek. This route takes you past the base of Table Mountain and down into Camps Bay. It is direct and often the fastest option.
Along the coast, through Sea Point and Clifton. This route is slightly longer, but it follows the ocean the whole way, with sea views for most of the drive.
Getting there without your own car
Uber is widely used in Cape Town and is an easy way to reach Camps Bay from the city centre. It is usually the simplest option if you do not have a rental car.
A hop-on-hop-off bus and the MyCiti bus service also stop in Camps Bay, though these take longer than a direct drive.
What this means for your stay
Because the drive is short, you can base yourself in Camps Bay and still reach the city centre easily for a day of sightseeing, shopping, or dinner, then head back to the beach the same evening.
There is often a lot of traffic going to Camps Bay in Summer from the late afternoon, especially on holidays and when the weather is perfect. On the 26th of December and 1 January – it is a nightmare.
