Last night, my girlfriends and I went to sleep on Table Mountain. After work we packed our backpacks and set off up the mountain from Constantia Nek. The walk is quite steep with backpacks but much easier than climbing up Kasteelspoort. Last winter Mike and I walked from Camps Bay, up Kasteelspoort with fully loaded backpacks, complete with bags of wood. Each time I had to climb up a rock, I thought the weight of the backpack was going to pull me back.
The views over Constantia and False Bay are really spectacular from Constantia Nek and the sheer beauty made the slog totally worth it.
On arrival at the Mountain Club Hut, we cracked open our ice cold bottle of Cap Classique and toasted the setting sun.
Other hikers arrived and we enjoyed our alfresco dinner under the stars with Ania’s chocolate collection for dessert.
Mattresses were laid onto the floor of the hut and candles were blown out by 22:00. Taking into consideration that were 11 people sleeping together, there was luckily not much of a snoring symphony happening. The next morning, at first light, we went for a short hike, smelling the king proteas and then set off to join the rat race. We grabbed a coffee at the food truck on Constantia Nek, hailed an Uber to Ania’s house in Hout Bay, had a shower and then it was work as usual.
Tonight Ania and I are walking from Camps Bay to the city to meet the guys for dinner, our legs are tired but luckily Ania is always up for a challenge.
