Book Review: The Wonder by Emma Donoghue
The Wonder is the latest novel by Emma Donoghue. I read until late last night while my eyes were burning and Mike was complaining. Around midnight, I finally finished.
Emma Donoghue is famous for her book Room, which was made into a movie with the same title. Watch the movie HERE
Although The Wonder is set in the 19th century, there are many similarities between the two books. Both books have someone who is a prisoner, both have sexual abuse and in both the protagonist escapes in a very heroic way. I hope I have not given the whole story away!
I love the way Donoghue writes from a modern prospective about the religious family set in rural Ireland in the 1850’s. Spoiler alert, there is also a bit of romance.
If you enjoyed Room, you will definitely want to read The Wonder, even if it is until very late on a school night.
