Cycling the Camino Portugues: Santiago De Compastella to Olveiroa

Cycling the Camino Portugues: Santiago De Compastella to Olveiroa

I left Santiago before the sun was up and cycled to Negreira and then Olveiroa.

I would have liked to push through to Fisterre which is supposedly only 36km’s away, but sometimes 36km’s off road can take hours and I did not have the energy for that.

All the places I wanted to stay, were full and my only choice was Auberge De Peregrinos De Olveiro, an old stone building with 9 beds in a room. I had the bottom bunk, which is a luxury in itself. Olveiro has three bars/restaurants, a few houses, chickens, cows and a graveyard.

The evening was passed talking nonsense, drinking wine and trying to keep warm. The lady with dreadlocks told me how she and her husband met on ‘Online Dating For Hippies.’ Last year they walked from Porto to Santiago for their honeymoon. Mostly they sleep on the beach under a tipi. The smelly auberge sudden seemed quite adequate to me. The French guy gave the Canadian student tips how he jumps trains for transport to his adventures across Europe. I realized that after Santiago, the dynamics changed totally.

The next day….
