Cycling the Camino Portugues.
My cycle from Porto, Portugal is the same route as the Camino Portugues.
If you are looking to read a blog about a perfect pilgrim, then please stop reading now.
My goal for my trip was to enjoy new experiences, cycle in forests, drink wine, eat good food, be alone or not, but most importantly to have FUN.
If you are someone who travels with a lot of luggage, enjoys a lot of wardrobe options, don’t like over exposure to sun, rain, cold or building up a sweat, needs a lot of luxuries, then this is not for you.
My wardrobe options where either the cleanest or the least smelly item of clothing.
For Cycling on cobble stones, you need a sports bra of steel and an aluminium butt. Cycling downhill on the cobble stones, my bell just rung automatically, which would usually announce my arrival in a new town or village. Giving the church bells some serious competition.
My diet consisted mostly of bread, ham, cheese, fruit, cheese, beer and wine. Not necessarily in that order.
From Porto Airport, you just jump on the first metro leaving the station. Obviously after buying and validating the ticket… The stops are listed inside the metro.
In Porto I stayed in Hotel Douro, which is very close to the Casa Musica Metro stop. The hotel was perfect except for the stale smoke smell in my room.
I explored Porto on bicycle and then went on the most amazing walking tour with the super funny and entertaining, Daniel.
My friend for the day was Paula from Germany.
At lunch I decided to try a Francesinha, a Portuguese sandwich originally from Porto, made with bread, made with bread, wet-cured ham, linguica, fresh sausage like chipolata, steak or roast meat and covered with melted cheese and a hot thick tomato and beer sauce served with french fries. Just your run of the mill, simple sandwich. More is more.
